29 - from the Real Source, part 3
Matthew 16 : 13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" 14 So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ. (NKJV)
The question asked of Peter, by the Lord Jesus, is one we must all answer personally.
Who the Lord Jesus is to you and in your life, will determine how much of who you are you will discover.
You need to know what Peter found out: Lord Jesus, You are the Christ, the Anointed One, the Son of the Living God.
When you see the Lord Jesus in that light, several things begin to become very clear to you:
You begin to establish a life-long relationship with our Father in heaven (verse 17)
You know who the Lord Jesus will make you to be: not What but Who (verse 18)
the Lord Jesus begins to make you strong from the inside out, so that even the attacks of Hell cannot shake your faith in Him (verse 18)
We just need to read the first five or six chapters of the book of Acts to see what a marvellous change took place in Peter to change him from a man of sand to a rock man whose faith and person could stand the tests through which he was put.
The Lord Jesus can make changes in us today too. Praise His holy name!
Prayer:
Father in heaven, help me to see clearly today that the Lord Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. And when I have seen this, help me establish a life-long relationship with You, Father. Teach me Who you created me to be; make me strong from the inside out, so that nothing shakes my faith in You, in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ, who makes all these things possible,
Amen. |
